Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) Technical Specifications
The latest version is effective from 19 May 2008

This illustrated technical publication provides general information on magnetic ink character recognition (MICR), as well as specifications for MICR documents, codeline field layout and printed characters. It also includes information about tolerance limits, quality control and printing.

This publication replaces the specifications contained in "Magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) : publication 3 R2" (1988) and its supplements, "Non-impact MICR encoding standards" (1993) and "Accreditation of MICR printing systems" (1997), and all previous versions of these specifications. The publication includes the specifications for the E-13B font, the construction and positioning of MICR code lines, methods of printing and quality assurance procedures.
