Fraud Statistics

APCA has been publishing cheque and card fraud statistics since November 2006 as part of the payment industry’s commitment to improve disclosure. The figures help consumers and businesses in Australia understand how fraud occurs so that they can take steps to minimise the risks when using cheques and cards, and allows the industry to monitor fraud trends and develop targeted mitigating strategies.

The data is based on information collected from APCA’s member institutions as well as the major card schemes operating in Australia.
